Believe it or not, fall is here! Even though the temperatures don’t quite show it yet, Halloween is just a month away. Now is the perfect time to get started on your DIY costume that won’t break the bank. Get creative with some of these super easy, common do-it-yourself costume ideas with a little spin!
Medusa
This Greek mythological monster could turn anyone to stone with just one look. To get a look like Medusa’s hair of venomous snakes, put your hair up in braids and then weave some fake snakes through it. Grab some dark, draped clothing and voila!
Robber and Money Bag
This one is great for a parent trick-or-treating with a little one! The adult can dress in all black with a black beanie and a black piece of cloth over eyes with eyeholes, to look like the robber. For the baby, dress him/her in tan bag with head and armholes and put a money sign on the bag. It will look like you just robbed the bank!
Gumball Machine
This fun outfit requires an old red dress and a whole lot of the colored cotton balls. First, hot glue the cotton balls all over the top of the dress to get the gumball look. Next, cut out a small cardboard rectangle, paint it silver and make a black coin slot. Draw 25-cent price next to it and now you’re a yummy gumball machine!
Where’s Waldo
Easy-Peasy! Grab some blue jeans, red shoes, a red and white striped shirt, old glasses and red beanie. This will create the Waldo look that everyone has searched for!
Rubik’s Cube
Need an outfit that you can wear cozy clothes under?! All you need to do is take an old square box and cut out a torso hole, armholes and a head hole. Then cut out square pieces of different colored construction paper. Hot glue the pieces to look like the ever-so-irritating Rubik’s Cube.
Jellyfish
For a jellyfish look: take an umbrella and attach cloth-like strings of all lengths to the edges. Find some clothes to match the umbrella’s color and put the umbrella over your head for the poisonous jellyfish look. Watch out Dory!
Grapes
Pick your favorite color of grapes and then grab some balloons. Wear the same color as your balloons, blow up the balloons and attach them to your outfit. Just like that you become a delicious bundle of grapes.
Lego
Grab an old cardboard box, solo cups and spray paint. Take the box and cut out a head hole and armholes. Next, superglue six solo cups to the front of the box. Lastly, spray paint the box whatever color you like… now you’re a walking Lego!
